New Book by Stone Centre Affiliate Dr. Felipe Valencia Caicedo

Recently published by Springer International Publishing, Dr. Felipe Valencia Caicedo’s book, ‘Roots of Underdevelopment: A New Economic and Political History of Latin America and the Caribbean,’ analyzes the enduring effects of historical events on the contemporary economic and political landscape of Latin America. In an interview hosted by two Vancouver School of Economics’ students, Shaan Hooey and Ivana Pérez Luengas, this book talk explores the ways in which Latin America’s history continues to shape its present. The book is also used as a central point of study for a new course taught at the VSE on Latin American Economic History, and aims to provide insight into the economic histories of the area from the scholars who have called these countries home.

He is particularly interested in economic persistence with an emphasis on Latin America. He obtained his PhD from Universitat Pompeu Fabra and the European Doctoral Program in 2015.
