Join us in celebrating the official launch of the Stone Centre on Wealth and Income Inequality. The Stone Centre at UBC’s Vancouver School of Economics is a multidisciplinary research centre that brings together scholars across disciplines to tackle the complex issues of wealth and income inequality. Supported by generous funding from the James M. and Cathleen D. Stone Foundation, the centre is committed to deepening our understanding of the causes and consequences of wealth and income inequality, while fostering conversations and research initiatives that drive policy change for a more equitable society.
The event will begin with opening remarks from the Stone Centre Director, Dr. Thomas Lemieux, along with Dr. Kevin Milligan, Director of the Vancouver School of Economics, and Dr. Clare Crowston, Dean of Arts.
The highlight of the event will be a keynote lecture by Dr. Hilary Hoynes, Chancellor’s Professor of Economics and Public Policy at UC Berkeley. As a renowned economist and co-director of the UC Berkeley Stone Center, Dr. Hoynes is at the forefront of research on poverty, inequality, and social safety nets. Her keynote will explore the lasting impacts of early-life access to social safety programs on children’s health and development, shedding light on the vital role these programs play in shaping human capital outcomes.
This launch will also serve as the first gathering of Stone Centre Faculty affiliates, MA, PhD, and Postdoctoral fellows, as well as the leadership team, to collectively kick off this exciting new chapter.
