Research Grants

Each year, the Stone Centre accepts applications for Stone Research Grants to support faculty-led research that deepens our understanding of wealth and income inequality in Canada and beyond.

Eligibility

All Stone Centre affiliated faculty are eligible to apply for Stone Research Grants. We particularly welcome applications from faculty who are in the early stages of their careers, including post-doctoral researchers, and untenured faculty.

Applications can be submitted by an individual researcher or a team of researchers. Research teams may include PhD students as co-applicants, provided they are collaborating on the broader research initiative led by the faculty member(s).

Project Funding

Stone Research Grants provide an award of up to $25,000 for a one-year research project. Grant funds may be used for the following purposes:

  • Hiring research assistants

  • Buying data

  • Purchasing software subscriptions or equipment

  • Project-related travel (eg. field work)

Requests for larger amounts may be considered in exceptional cases only.

How to Apply

Applications for the 2024/25 round of Stone Research Grants are now closed. Details about the 2025/26 round will be posted at a later date.

Proposal Evaluation

Stone Research Grants are competitive in nature. A committee of Stone Centre faculty will select projects that best align with the Centre’s mission to understand the causes and consequences of wealth and income inequality, and possible remedies.
